On the morning of June 14th, 2021, in the second class, all the teachers in the lower grade group of the Primary Section had a topic discussion on ‘how to stimulate the interest of lower grade students in learning English and improve the efficiency of English teaching’.
First of all, the young teachers in the group exchanged their confusion in teaching around the theme, and the experienced teachers gave some guiding opinions from the aspects of goal achievement, learning strategies, introduction methods and learning habits according to their own teaching experience.
Second of all, Gao Huimin, an English teacher teaching in Grade 2, shared her teaching experience based on her own teaching practice in lower-grade English classes: firstly, it’s important to cultivate students' sense of achievement, and let students feel the fun of learning English, feeling that learning English is not a difficult thing. Secondly, special exercises should be carried out for students, and the exercises should be fewer but better to ensure the effectiveness of the training. Thirdly, we should grasp the characteristics of students in lower grades and adopt diversified teaching methods to attract students' attention and stimulate their interest in learning English.
Last but not the least, teacher Zhang Cheng, the leader of the English teaching and research team, made a summary and hoped that in the future teaching, everyone should strive to cultivate students' good learning habits and comprehensive language application ability, and in the meantime he required the teachers to study the teaching materials, combine theory with practice, and improve the effectiveness of English classes.
